Nritya Rang

Yogini-kathak
Yogini-odissi

Nritya Rang: The Concert “Nritya Rang” a mélange of moods and movements, will include select pieces from the traditional repertoire of both the styles. The program will feature items like Pallavi and Taraana that showcase the distinct body language of the dance forms interwoven with complex rhythmic patterns; and emotive pieces from Hindu mythology that reflect the immortal love of Radha and Krishna.
The performance will be accompanied with a detailed commentary by the dancer to enable the audiences to understand the subtle nuances of the dance pieces.

Yogini Gandhi : A rare combination of talent, intellect and beauty, Yoginiji is amongst the very few dancers who perform two Indian classical dance styles - Kathak & Odissi with equal dexterity and virtuosity. After initial training at Kala Chhaya and under Shri Natbar Maharana, she went on to receive guidance from India's legendary dance maestros Pt. Birju Maharaj and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Yogini's dance creatively infuses her individual artistic perception with the knowledge she has received from her gurus.

Kathak, the dance style from north India has the charm and subtlety associated with miniature paintings. Nurtured in the holy precincts of the Hindu temples Kathak was further enhanced with Persian influence during the Mogul reign in India. Over the centuries, it has attained refinement and enriched itself by the establishment of distinct styles and gharanas.

Odissi is one of India's oldest dance forms tracing its roots to the 2nd century BC. Steeped in devotion it has a unique lyrical grace and feminine beauty. Many Odissi poses have been immortalized in stone at various temples and therefore Odissi has been aptly described as "Sculpture in Motion."
